Geocache Description:

It's time for a whole new game!!! Join us for the 7th annual Texas Challenge.

All of the information below (and MORE) is on our dedicated event web site: http://www.texaschallenge.info

The Texas Challenge is a weekend event with a lot of activities planned. It's a chance to meet geocachers from all over the state and trade stories, learn tips, and meet new friends. This year, the event is being hosted by the Central Texas region.

The MAIN activities: Central Texas is excited to announce a brand new format for the Texas Challenge! Now, everyone has TWO ways to play depending on whether you’re a casual cacher or a fierce competitor.

Would you like the chance to win an EXCLUSIVE geocoin?
This coin is the same design as the general coin that you can purchase from the event site (online store), but it's in an antique bronze instead of the polished gold.

The only way to receive this coin - which is trackable on geocaching.com - is to WIN the competitive Challenge or the cache container contest! If you'd like to enter the competitive Challenge, you must REGISTER prior to the event with your team information.

The container contest doesn't require pre-registration, but check the guidelines and start making your container!

General coins are for sale on the event site, but these antique bronze metal coins will not be available for sale.

Game 1 - Competitive game: Game 2 - Casual Caching
Who: 2-4 Person Teams

What: Gather points by visiting as many special cache locations as possible in the allotted time (approx 2.5 hours).

When: March 14, 2009
Sign in: 8-9am at the Group Pavilion
     Briefing: 9:15-9:30
Waypoint Loading: 9:30 to completion, Team Captains first
Starting gun: Immediately after waypoint loading is complete, approx. 9:45am

Where: Enchanted Rock State Park, Group Pavilion

Why: First Place Teams will get limited edition geocoins and all the glory that goes along with winning! Second and third place teams will get unique event pins. ALL participants will have a great morning of hiking at beautiful, rugged Enchanted Rock State Park.

Everything else you want to know can be found on the rules page.

For those not interested in the fast-paced competition, there will also be the Casual Caching tour of Fredericksburg and the surrounding area:

Geocaches will be hidden at various points of interest to offer visitors their choice of interesting places to visit.

Some possibilities:

  • Historic walking tour of downtown
  • Winery tour
  • Country Schoolhouses
  • Enchanted Rock natural area

Some of these caches will be listed on geocaching.com and you can log them as a "find". Others may not meet the official geocaching.com guidelines and will be there for the fun of the hunt.

For every casual geocache you find, you'll receive an entry into our prize pool. We'll gather everyone from the casual and competitive games and draw prizes until they're all gone!

There is no age restriction for participation in the casual caching and we'll have a prize pool dedicated to just the younger geocachers.

The goal of the Casual Caching tour is to give those who don't want to compete a chance to socialize with other geocachers while discovering the beautiful Fredericksburg area in the way only geocachers can, with a chance to win a prize at the end!

Accommodations

The home base for the weekend's activities will be Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. Please see the event web site for more details on camping and area hotels.

Other activities for the weekend:

Cache Container Contest - Build the most creative or challenging container you can imagine and bring it with you to pit your skills against the brightest geocachers from other regions. Earn yourself an award and some recognition! Guidelines are on the information site. Please note that entries in the container contest will be given away during our prize drawings Saturday evening and not returned to the builder.

Spirit of Texas Award - Since the Competitive Challenge has moved to an individual team basis, this is the way for regions to compete against each other for the coveted "Golden Ammo" can and bragging rights as the most spirited region in Texas!! Full details are posted on the event web site. Regions will have an opportunity to earn points based on their participation during the weekend. For example, number of teams entering the competitive challenge, number of people entering the cache container contest, bringing new geocachers to the event, traveling the farthest distance to attend, etc. The idea of this contest is that it's a FUN way to encourage attendance and participation. The more folks you have participating, the better chance your region stands to win, so help get the word out!!!
