Djaga: Beste Mensen, ...... Dear People,

Voor de zoveelste keer is het logrolletje verdwenen.
Denk dat een van de buurtbewoners de cache ontdekt heeft en het blijkbaar niet zo prettig vind dat vreemd volk de cache zoekt.

Helaas heb ik daarom moeten besluiten om De Diest te deactiveren.

Ik wil iedereen bedanken voor het bezoeken van de cache.
Bijna 4500 Geocachers van over de hele wereld hebben de afgelopen 12 jaar deze mooie plek bezocht en daar ben ik trots op.

Dear People,

The log has disappeared for the umpteenth time.
Think one of the residents has discovered the cache and apparently does not like it that foreign people are looking for the cache.

Unfortunately, I therefore had to decide to deactivate De Diest.

I want to thank everyone for looking up the cache.
Nearly 4,500 Geocachers from all over the world have visited this beautiful place in the past 12 years and I am proud of it.

Een cache in het mooie 's-Hertogenbosch. A cache in the beautiful town of ‘s- Hertogenbosch.

Hoewel uitstekend bereikbaar zullen rolstoelers en/of kleine mensen mogelijk enige hulp nodig hebben bij het cachen. Ga niet op het muurtje staan, dit is gevaarlijk en ook onnodig!
People inwheelchairs or smaller people will probably need help reaching for the Micro.
Do not stand on the wall, which is dangerous and not necessary !

DE DIEST De strijd is gestreden. De Diest is gebleven en deze Toog herrezen, 1961 – J v.d. E – 1999
Deze spreuk is te lezen op een ingemetselde steen in een Toog over de Binnendieze in het centrum van‘s-Hertogenbosch.

DE DIEST The battle has been fought. The Diest remained and this Arc has resurrected, 1961 – J v.d. E – 1999
This sentence can be read in a bricked stone in an Arc above the Binnendieze in the centre of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

De Binnendieze, een stelsel van riviertjes in de oude stad, zo smal dat je daar huizen overheen kon bouwen. Deze rivier was wasplaats, vestinggracht, stortplaats, viswater en zorgde voor de watervoorziening. Uiteindelijk werd de Binnendieze doordat het haar functie verloor een open riool.

The Binnendieze, a structure of rivers in the old town, was so very narrow that people have build houses across it. This river was a place to wash, a moat, a place for angling and it provided the water supply. Eventually the Binnendieze lost her function and became an open sewer.

In de jaren ‘60 wilde de stad mee gaan met de moderne tijd en de stinkende Binnendieze stond de ontwikkeling zoals deze zich voordeed in steden als bv. Eindhoven en Tilburg in de weg. Dempen dus! Een woedend gemeenteraadslid Hein Bergé tijdens een raadsvergadering hierover in 1964: Ge ruikt oe eige….!

In the 60s the city wanted to go along with modern times, but the smelly Binnendieze stood in the way of development as which occurred in cities like for example Eindhoven and Tilburg. So, damp! During a council in 1964 about this issue the furious councilor Hein Bergé once said: “Ge ruikt oe eige…!’, meaning ‘You can smell yourself…!’

Gelukkig liet de uitvoering op zich wachten en de meningen veranderden! Uiteindelijk werd besloten de Binnendieze niet te dempen maar te behouden vanwege het historische karakter ervan. Ook kwamen er oplossingen voor het reinigen van het oppervlakte water. Men ging de Binnendieze restaureren!

Fortunately, the execution had to wait and the opinions changed! At long last was decided not to damp the Binnendieze, but preserve it because of its historical character. Also there came solutions for purifying the surface water. People were beginning to renovate the Binnendieze!

In de Middeleeuwen was de Binnendieze zo’n 12 km lang. Toen men begon met restaureren was daarvan nog zo’n 3,5 km over. Ook werd destijds het open water nog steeds door veel huizen gebruikt als Gemeentelijk riool.

In the Middle Ages the Binnendieze was approximately 12 km long. When the renovation began, only 3,5 km were left. At that time, the open water was still used as Municipal sewer by many houses.

De restauratie begon 1973 in de Uilenburg en werd in 1998 afgerond. Dit langdurend en kostbaar waterrenovatieproject kostte in totaal zo’n 43,5 miljoen gulden waarvan 13,5 miljoen gulden werd opgebracht door de stad ’s-Hertogenbosch en de rest door o.a. de Provincie en het Rijk. Nog steeds worden er werkzaamheden en restauratieprojecten uitgevoerd aan de Binnendieze en Vestingwerken.

The renovation started in 1973 at the Uilenburg and was completed in 1998. This long-term and expensive water renovation project in total cost approximately 43,5 million guilders, whereof 13,5 million guilders was applied by the city of 's-Hertogenbosch and the remains were applied by the Province and the State, among others. Still there are proceedings executed at the Binnendieze and Fortifications.

Het verzet van Hein Bergé en van Jan van der Eerden is succesvol gebleken. De Binnendieze werd gered en is nu een toeristische topattractie geworden. Elke Bosschenaar is er trots op.

The resistance of Hein Bergé and Jan van der Eerden has been showed to be successful. The Binnendieze has been saved and at present it is a tourist attraction. Every inhabitant of 's-Hertogenbosch is proud of it.

Er zijn al jaren diverse rondvaarten over de Binnendieze waarvan de Historische Route een absolute aanrader is: (visit link) Ook zijn er stadswandelingen en rondleidingen door de schitterende binnenstad van ’s-Hertogenbosch.

For years there have been various cruises across the Binnendieze of which the Historical Route is highly recommended: (visit link) Besides that, there are city walks and guided tours through the beautiful town of ‘s-Hertogenbosch.

De heer Hein Bergé is 25 april 2010 op 94 jarige leeftijd overleden.
Mr. Hein Bergé has passed away April 25, 2010 at the age of 94.
De heer Jan van der Eerden is 05 januari 2019 op 92 jarige leeftijd overleden.
Mr. Jan van der Eerden has passed away Januari 5, 2019 at the age of 92.
