This Dennis town park is named after Johnny Kelley, runner of the Boston Marathon a record 61 times. Nicknamed Marathon Man, this runner placed first in 1935 and 1945, placed second seven times, and finished in the top ten 18 times. Johnny was named ‘‘Runner of the Century" by Runner's World Magazine in 2000. He lived in East Dennis and died at age 97 in 2004.
''People always ask me why I keep on running,” he said in his 90’s. ''I keep running because I love it. To me, there's nothing else like it in the world."
The third annual 5K race in Johnny Kelley’s honor was held today, September 1, 2008.
This park offers fields for baseball, courts for basketball, picnic areas, a playground, a Braille Trail, and a one mile Life Course. Dogs on a leash are allowed and the park is open from dawn to dusk. ENJOY!
