Scotlands first 'SideTracked' cache, About SideTracked:
We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy... But what about public transport users? SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick Cache-and-dashes at Railway Stations, the series has proved very popular South of the border, so hopefully it will catch on in Scotland.
Linlithgow is a railway station serving the town of Linlithgow in West Lothian, Scotland. It is located on the Glasgow to Edinburgh via Falkirk Line and is also served by First ScotRail services from Edinburgh to Dunblane. A very pleasant station to wait for your train, with good views of the railway from the cache location. Happy hunting.
This cache has now been updated to a new site due to a change in the old position and the cache disappearing several times. The new position is about 100 metres further away from the station but takes you too an interesting building and gardens nearby. You will have to negotiate some stairs and a woodland track so unfortunately not now wheelchair accessible.
The new container is slightly bigger and can now hold trackables.
As so many people are asking about the building.
It is known as the Ross Doocot (or Dovecot - A house for Doves and Pigeons with openings and provision inside for roosting and breeding) and was built in the 16th Century by the Barons Ross of Halkhead, probably on the tail rig of their lodging. It is a circular beehive doocot and its thick rubble walls contain 370 nesting boxes. The doocot is bound by three projecting rat-courses, rather like string courses with a recent lantern on top. The Gardens commemorate Alexander Learmonth, Provost of Linlithgow, 1802-7 and are known as the Learmouth Gardens .
