Geocache Description:

Union Pacific filed paperwork to abandon the section of rail between the Renaissance Festival grounds and United Sugars in Chaska following a trestle collapse in March 2007. The collapse occurred just upstream of downtown Carver, sending several railcars full of sugar into the Minnesota River.

The railroad then faced a bill of up to $8 million to fix the bridges and tracks on the line, but freight revenues were insufficient to justify costs of reconstruction.

In Historic Downtown Carver.
Carver County's First City - Est. 1852
Park Hours 6:oo AM - 10:oo PM

In 1980 the old town of Carver became the first historical district in Minnesota to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Carver Historical District included eighty-seven buildings and four structures of historical significance from 1850-1925 with respect to early river town settlement, commerce, dwelling places, and architecture.

Be sure to have a look around!
