NYS Geocaching Learner's Permit Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Sapience Trek: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Earn your New York State Geocaching Learner's Permit by solving a puzzle and finding this small-ish sized cache.

Warning:

THE CACHE IS NOT LOCATED AT THE ABOVE COORDINATES

The above coordinates will take you to a lamp post (with liftable skirt)
in a DMV parking lot, but you will not find anything of value there.

Solve the puzzle below to determine the location of the cache and earn your geocaching learner's permit!

Puzzle:
Don't ask me why, but I perched on a light post at the posted coords for an entire day and watched the traffic come in and out of the DMV. I spotted fifteen (15) geocachers coming out of the DMV. I took notes on what I saw throughout the day and made sure I knew which order each cacher had visited and where they headed. I have transcribed my notes here:

DMV Activity Log

  1. TD Lover left the DMV and headed north on Church St.
  2. marlin01 left the DMV and headed west on Taft Rd.
  3. dnnsgps left the DMV and headed west on Taft Rd.
  4. bubbaduck left the DMV and headed north on Church St.
  5. Shades-of-Gray left the DMV and headed west on Taft Rd.
  6. mermaidb50 left the DMV and headed north on Church St.
  7. meriadoc2003 left the DMV and headed west on Taft Rd.
  8. RANGER21 left the DMV and headed north on Church St.
  9. Team Ferret left the DMV and headed west on Taft Rd.
  10. GetFunky left the DMV and headed west on Taft Rd.
  11. Dave w/o id left the DMV and headed north on Church St.
  12. scubachris53 left the DMV and headed north on Church St.
  13. jeepcacher82 left the DMV and headed west on Taft Rd.
  14. EarthSciSD left the DMV and headed north on Church St.
  15. Sekhmet left the DMV and headed west on Taft Rd.
As it turns out, each of the geocachers had gotten personalized license plates to match their own geocaching nicknames. I took pictures of each of their new plates and have posted them here, in alphabetical order:

Oh me, oh my! I apologize, but I don't make puzzle caches THIS easy!

Solution:

Check your answer first!

Before heading out to find the cache, you must verify that you have the correct coordinates! You can check your answers for this puzzle on Geochecker.com. (As of 5/20/11, there were 51 correct attempts and 92 incorrect guesses under the original coordinates.)

Additional information:
  • B. Y. O. P.!
  • When arriving at the cache location, use common sense on where you should be parking. If you solved the puzzle, I know you can figure out the parking!
  • You don't want to look for this one after dusk or before dawn.
  • As usual, please make sure you close the container properly. These containers can be tricky, especially when it is fully stocked. For this reason, also do not plan on leaving any swag in the cache.
UPDATE: Due to changes in the cache area, I have updated the difficulty and terrain of this cache.
  • Before 1 June 2010: Difficulty 2.5, Terrain 2.0
  • Between 1 June 2010 - 20 May 2011: Difficulty 2.0, Terrain 1.0
  • After 20 May 2011: Difficulty 2.5, Terrain 1.5
If for some reason you found this cache before 1 June 2010 and need to use this cache for some sort of a challenge requirement (e.g. Fizzy Challenge) then feel free to have the challenge cache owner contact me to verify that you did in fact find it under the higher difficulty/terrain. For most people completing the Fizzy Challenge, however, you've probably hit more than one 2.5/2.0 caches by now.
