Tillgången på rent dricksvatten
i Göteborg var dålig redan vid stadens anläggande
1621.
Göteborgsleran var ingen bra grund för grävda
brunnar och situationen blev inte bättre när befolkningen
växte.
Innehållet i stadens hamnkanaler användes bl.a. till
tvätt, garvning, avlopp och även som
dricksvattentäkt.
Man hade tidigare kört vatten i tunnor från källan
i Kallebäck och sålt till törstiga stadsbor, men i
början av 1700-talet väcktes frågan om att leda
vatten direkt från källan i träledningar.
Efter 70 år (sic!) av debatterande beslöts att ge
skotten Andrew Blackwood i uppdrag att leda arbetet med att bygga
en bassäng och att i genomborrade trästockar leda vattnet
en halvmil till ett tappställe inom vallgraven.
Vattenbehovet steg efter hand och nästan 100 år senare
öppnades en ny järnledning från den
närbelägna Delsjön.
Flera bryggerier har varit inkopplade på det friska
källvattnet. Pripps slutade att ta
vatten härifrån 2002.
Idag lider källan av förhöjda bakteriehalter men
tjänar ändå som ett vackert minne över de som
en gång försåg göteborgarna med den
livgivande drycken.
Cachen i en liten plastbox med loggbok och några bytesobjekt
ligger i en ganska lätttillgänglig terräng med
många fina backar.

The Well of Kallebäck
The availability of clean drinking water in
Gothenburg was poor when the city was founded in 1621.
The Clay Soil was not a good basis for dug wells. The situation was
not improved when the population grew.
The filthy contents of the city's Harbour Channels was used for
washing, tanning, sanitation and also drinking water.
Previously, water in barrels from the source in Kallebäck was
sold to thirsty city dwellers, but in the beginning of the 1700s
the issue was raised of leading water directly from the source in
wooden pipes.
After 70 years (sic!) the Town council decided to give the scotsman
Andrew Blackwood mandate to lead the work of building a basin and
lead the fresh water (4.7km) in hollow wooden logs to downtown
Gothenburg.
Due to a raised demand of fresh water a new pipe of iron from the
nearby lake "Delsjön" was deployed almost 100 years
later.
Several brewers has during the years being tapping into the fresh
spring water by pipeline. The last one (Pripps) plugged out in
2002.
Nowdays, due to a raise of bacteriae level, the well only serves as
a beautiful memory, reminding of those whom supplied Gothenburg
with the fluid of life.
The cache in a small plastic tupperwarelike box containing loggbook
and some swap items is hidden in fairly easy terrain (if You
don´t mind some uphill walking).
The cache is not hidden in, or on, the building. (notable
