Geocache Description:

My 1st Geocaching trail starts at East Dean, located 9 kilometres (6 miles) north east of Chichester between Singleton on the A286 and Upwaltham on the A285 road.

It is set in a valley in the South Downs has an Anglican parish church dedicated to All Saints, and a nonconformist chapel. The village hall was formerly the school and bears the date 1782. There is one pub, The Star and Garter. The church, the pub and most of the houses are built of flint, usually with brick quoins and window dressings. A fire in 1852 destroyed eight houses and several barns, leaving others damaged. Slate roofs replaced the thatch on some of these. The pond is considered to be the source of the River Lavant.

The parish has a land area of 1663.5 hectares (4109 acres). In the 2001 census 217 people lived in 102 households, of whom 107 were economically active.

The Trail :-

Some steep hills are involved and the paths can be muddy - The terrain and difficulty ratings for this cache apply to the whole trail. My GPS was throwing a wobbly, so I have made the clues very detailed.

The star and garter is at GPS N50 54 525, W000 42 944. Menu looked great !

caches 9 and 10 take you along the Monarch's way. This is a 615 mile footpath which approximates the escape route taken by King Charles II in 1651 after being defeated in the Battle of Worcester.

Park at counter's gate cark park, which is part of goodwood country park. You can find this marked clearly on OS map. The car park is quite long. If you park at the west end you can find some small paths leading through the hedge onto the road for cache 1. Otherwise if you take the car exit you will have to walk along a busy road.
