Located on the common in Templeton Mass outside of one of the oldest buildings in the area. The container is accesable by all during all seasons. A piece of Pie awaits the FTF during normal restaurant hours.
This cache is our first cache hidden in Massachusetts. This area provides fond memories of my childhood in addition to becoming one of the top businesses in the area. My Mom, Gail Whittle, over 20 years ago started a gift shop that currently spans two buildings that provide over 30 rooms stuffed full of unique items available both near and far. Partially hidden behind a shelter of Elm trees, the gift shop and restaurant has breathed new life into the 233-year-old Stone property. A historical home that has been a noted landmark on the Common for more than 2 centuries. Silas Stone built the house in the 1770's. In the 1830's, the house was enlarged by adding a two story ell built of wood to enlarge the home to 19 rooms. During the course of time it was known by some as the Joseph Upham Tavern, and later in the 1837 period, it was used as a private high school. At different times it was used by Templeton physicians for their practices. Other uses were for political gatherings and ballroom dances. The downstairs was once a general store. The last family member to own the home before Gail was Elsa Stone. She became the first women to graduate from Radcliffe College. She became a school teacher, was a welder in World War II, an organist for the templeton first church, and is remembered even today by former students as a stringent tutor of the three R's. I worked for Elsa as a young Boy for $1.45 per hour where I weeded her Garden, collected her mail, carried firewood, vacuumed her house, etc. And yes, she was a task master!!!!! If you Geocache in the area, this location must be on your list.
