The volcanic landscape is often very colourful. At this spezial place, called „Los Azulejos“ you can find bluish and greenish stones.
The greenish tones are due to chloride and epidote.
They are caused by hydrothermal alteration.
Hydrothermal alteration occurs when ground water originated from rainfall reaches the roots of an active volcano. Volcanic gases dissolve in the water and increase ist agressiveness, divolving part of the rock, which is desposited in the form of new minerals. So these stones were formed underearth. After Las Canadas landslide these caracteristic bluish and greenish rock formations were left exposed.
To log this cache as a found:
1.) look around! There are a lot of different colours of lava to see. E-mail me –via geocaching- a) what mineral besides Illite is responsible for the palest colours and b) the name of the mountain at which foot you can find it (infoboard will help).
2.) Upload a picture showing you at this side to your log (re-allowed by GC since June 2019).
Logs without the required e-mail will be deleted without comment. Due to "administration" of the log-permissions it is nessecary that every team send an e-mail by itsself even if you were there together. Do not wait for log-permission, just log your found directly after sending the mail; we will contact you if there is something wrong.

Vulkanische Landschaften sid oft sehr farbenprächtig. An dieser speziellen Stelle, „Los Azulejos“ genannt, findet man grünliche und bläuliche Steine.
Diese grünliche Töne sind durch Chloride und Epidot verursacht.
Sie entstehen durch hydrothermale Alteration.
Hydrothermale Alteration tritt auf, wenn Regenwasser den Grund eines aktiven Vulkans erreicht. Vulkanische Gase lösen sich im Wasser und verstärken seine Aggressivität, spalten Teile des Gesteins, was zur Entstehung neuer Mineralien führt. Dieses Gestein wird also unterirrdisch gebildet. Nach dem Einsturz von Las Canadas wurden diese charakteristischen bläulichen und grünlichen Felsen freigelegt.
Um diesen Cache als „found“ zu loggen, musst du
1.) Dich einmal umschauen. Hier gibt es die verschiedensten Farbtöne der Lava in der Umgebung. Maile mir –via geocaching- a) welches andere Mineral nebst Illite für die blasse Färbung verantwortlich ist und b) am Fusse welchen Berges dies zu finden ist (Infotafel hilft!)
2.) Lade zu deinem Log ein Foto von dir an dieser Stelle hoch, um zu beweisen, dass du persönlich da warst (wiedererlaubt von GC seit Juni 2019).
Logs ohne die erforderliche e-mail werden kommentarlos gelöscht. Aus "verwaltungstechnischen Gründen" muss die erforderliche e-mail von jedem Team, das loggen möchte, geschickt werden, auch wenn ihr zusammen da ward! Du kannst sofort nach Versenden der Mail loggen, ohn eine Log-Erlaubnis abzuwarten.
