Dabas liegums "Lielupes palienes pljavas" izveidots jau 1999. gadaa. Apzinot vietas unikalitaati, 2004. gadaa liegums paplašinaats un iekljauts Eiropas iipaši aizsargaajamo teritoriju tiiklaa Natura 2000. Teritoriju veido chetras noškjirtas palienju pljavu platiibas Lielupes abos krastos un Pilssalaa. Dabas liegums izveidots, lai saglabaatu dabiskaas pljavas Lielupes krastos un tajaas ligzdojošaas retaas putnu sugas.
Lielupe ir otra lielaakaa Latvijas upe. Kadreiz taa kalpoja par kugju celju liidz pat Zemgales ostai Mežotne. Lielupe ir ljoti leena liidzenuma upe. Savdabiigi, ka tieši pilseetas teitorijaa ir saglabajušaas teju vai peedeejaas Lielupes palienes pljavas. Ik gadu pavasarii uz vairaakaam dienaam vai pat nedeeljaam Pils salas ziemelju gals un paliene abos krastos appluust. Reizem krasu uudens liimenja celšanos izraisa stipri veeji no juuras puses, taapeec salas zemaakaa dalja jau kopš pilseetas pirmsaakumiem 16.gs. nekad nav apbuuveeta un vienmeer izmantota lopu ganiišanai vai siena vaakšanai. To skaits šobrid ir 50 (26.07.2012.). Savvaljas zirgi, paartiekot no zaales, kruumiem, niedreem un koku mizas, nodrošina atklaatas dabas ainavas pastaavešanu. Tie ari agraak dzivoja Latvijaa, liidzigi kaa subri un tauri, tachu ar cilveeku "paliidziibu" izzuda taalajos vidusslaikos. Dodoties mekleat sleepni pastaav liela iespeejamiiba, ka savaa celjaa satiksiet zirgus. Tos nedrikst barot un nav atljauts tiem tuvoties paaraak tuvu.
Slepnis atrodas uz Pilssalas. Novietojiet auto Jelgavas pils staavlaukuma (56° 39.400'N 23° 44.000'E) vai pie dabas lieguma informaacijas stenda un dodieties pastaigaa pa Pils salu lidz sleepnim un atpaklj. Jums buus nepieciešama apmeeram 1/2 stunda, lai nokljuutu liidz sleepnim un tik pat arii atpakalj. Vasaras sezonaa netaalu no ieejas lieguma teritorijaa ir iespeejams iznomaat uudens velosipeedus, bet tad jums sleepnja sasniegshana prasiis ilgaaku laiku. Varat meegjinaat nokljuut uz salas peldot vai arii ar laivu, tachu es iesaku doties ar kaajaam. Gala objekts ir atliekas no bijušas bakas.

The Lielupe Floodplain Meadows Nature Reserve was established in 1999. Later surveys revealed additional unique features of the site, and in 2004 the reserve was expanded and designated a Natura 2000 area, a part of the European specially protected area network. The site contains four separate floodplain meadows on both banks of the Lielupe River and Pilssala (Pils Island). The nature reserve was established to conserve natural meadows on the banks of the Lielupe River and rare bird species nesting there.
Lielupe is the second largest river in Latvia, and once it was used for ships to reach the Zemgale port in Mezotne. Lielupe is very river that flows over flat landscape. Peculiary, some of the last unaltered Lielupe floodplain meadows are found within the city. Every spring the northen end of the Pilssala and the meadows on both banks of the river flood for a few days or ever weeks. at times some dramatic water level elevations are caused by winds coming from the sea. Hence, from the early days of the city in the 16th century the island was not developed and has always been used for grazing and mowing. This has created a unique refuge for many rare plant and animal species that sheltered there from the busy urban life.
Open meadows are most valuable, hence their overgowing with shrubs is not desired. Today, the meadows have been cleared and 17 wild horses from the Neatherland have been brought to the Pilssala to prevent further shrub invasion. Now there is 50 horses (26.07.2012.). Wild horses maintain the open natural landscape by grazing on grass, shurbs, reed and tree bark. Such horeses have historically lived in Latvia, just like Eureopean bisons and wild cows, yet human activities have fostered their disappearance alredy in the teh late Middle Ages. In your way to cache it is big posibility to see horses. Do not feed and do not go close to horses.
Cache placed on Pilssala (Pils Island). Park your car in Jelgavas palace parking area (56° 39.400'N 23° 44.000'E) or near nature reserve information poster and go in walk through Pilssala (Pils Island). You will need approximately half hour to reach the cache. As much again to go back. In summer season near from entrance in nature reserve you can rent water cycle (pedalo), but then you will need much more time. You can also tray to reach island with boat or you can swim, but I recomend go by foot. Final object is remains from former lighthouse.
