Geocache Description:

A short hike into Glacier National Park

This cache is one of 4 new ones placed in Glacier National Park in the Rogers Pass area. Travelers on the Trans Canada Highway can turn onto the Illecillewaet Campground road and park at the trailhead area. A one km trail leads to the Meeting of the Waters, a bridge across the confluence of two rivers. Asulkan Brook is supplied by the Asulkan and neighboring glaciers a few kilometres south. The Asulkan Glacier trail follows this valley south for 6.5 km. The Illecillewaet River is fed by the Illecillewaet (Great) Glacier two kilometres east. The Sir Donald trail climbs high under the face of Sir Donald and the Vaux Glacier and the Perley Rock trail angles off SE to a viewpoint over the Great Glacier. Glacier Crest trail bridges the two valleys. Both rivers are rich in glacial till, noisy, and turbulent. Benches are available on both sides of the bridge. Spend some time here if you can, and combine with one of 5 hikes in the area (including 2 more caches - Great Glacier and Glacier House). These valleys are special places; all visitors are encouraged to check in at the Parks Canada booth by the trailhead.
Parks Canada permits geocaching but restricts the type of cache containers. There is logbook and pen, but no trade items. Please rehide carefully and respect environmental principles within the park. Go to http://www.pc.gc.ca/pn-np/bc/glacier/index_e.asp for more information.
