Geocache Description:

This is one of my favourite places in the Oxford area.
You will need to put your tramping boots on for this one.

This cache is placed on the Lilburn Hill in the Puketeraki Forest consrvation area in Lees Valley.
The walk will take about 3-4 hours one way from where you leave your mode of transport. There is a nice hut right at the cache site for an overnight stay if you wish and a wee tarn for a dip if you're keen (when it's not frozen). The walk starts off nice and easy following a vehicle track and the Ashley River then progresses to a steady climb. You will be rewarded with great views when you get to the cache site. A great place to chill out. This cache location is not really suited for children, because of the terrain and climb. The cache container is about 400ml and painted camo green, with lots of goodies inside. Note.... Just after you have crossed the Lilburn stream there is a nice tempting four wheel drive track that takes you all the way up to the Tarn Hut. But this is on PRIVATE land and should not be used .The correct route is about ten minutes walk past Tent Gully and then sign posted from there or carry on up untill Youngmans stream Hut and then up from there. Below is a link referring to the access into this area. (visit link)
