Geocache Description:

This cache is the first in a series to commemorate the fire fighting efforts that preserved Big Sur during the Basin Complex of lightning-caused fires that began June 21, 2008. My sincerest thanks go out to Cache Medic and Hula Bum for their efforts to replace this cache when it was found to be missing.

This cache was placed after over thirty hours of non-stop fire fighting effort by my Strike Team of California State OES (Office of Emergency Services) type 1 fire engines. We rested at this vista point awaiting our next assignment protecting structures along a 15 mile stretch of Coast Highway 1 south of the Ventana Inn. At the time of this placement, this was the southernmost boundry of the fire. I waited to post this cache until the area was again safely open to all traffic. Please be sensitive of the local residents as you visit this series of caches.
