This is an easy to find geocache just outside the grounds
of the church.Plenty of car parking is avalable near the church.
St.Rumwolds church in Bonnington is one of the oldest churches
on romney marsh.It sits on the banks of the Royal Military Canal.
There are only about eight churches dedicated
to St.Rumwold in the u.k..
St. Rumwold was born at King's Sutton in AD 662, the son
of St. Cyneburga and King Alchfrid.He lived only three days.
On his first day he proclaimed himself as a christian and asked for
Baptisim and Holy communion.On his second day he gave a sermon
quoting from the bible.On his third day he gave a sermon to his
parents and then died.
The church at Bonnington is remote and has no electricty or gas
supply running to it due to its rural location.The church site has been
in use as a place of worship since about 796AD. Its materials and design
give the appearence of a Norman church but is small size
sugest that it is a Saxon building.
The parish of Bonnington is mentioned in the doomsday survey.
There are some intresting examples of olde style graffiti
that has been carved in the door that leads into the church.
The Royal Military Canal runs close by and is a pleasent walk
during the summer and has several geocaches placed along its banks.
