ENERGIAS RENOVÁVEIS
A energia renovável é aquela que é obtida de fontes naturais capazes de se regenerar, e portanto virtualmente inesgotáveis, ao contrário dos Recursos não-renováveis.
As energias renováveis são consideradas como energias alternativas ao modelo energético tradicional, tanto pela sua disponibilidade (presente e futura) garantida (diferente dos combustíveis fósseis que precisam de milhares de anos para a sua formação) como pelo seu menor impacto ambiental.
Fontes de energias renováveis:
- O Sol: energia solar
- O vento: energia eólica
- Os rios e correntes de água doce: energia hidráulica
- Os mares e oceanos: energia maremotriz e energia das ondas
- A matéria orgânica: biomassa
- O calor da Terra: energia geotérmica

RENEWABLE ENERGY
Renewable energy is energy generated from natural resources—such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides and geothermal heat—which are renewable (naturally replenished). Renewable energy technologies range from solar power, wind power, hydroelectricity/micro hydro, biomass and biofuels for transportation.
The renewable energy are considered as alternative energy to the traditional energy model, in their assured availability (present and future, different of the fossil fuels that need of millions of years to be formed) as in their less environmental impact.

Energia Eólica
A energia eólica é a energia que provém do vento. O termo eólico vem do latim aeolicus, pertencente ou relativo a Éolo, deus dos ventos na mitologia grega e, portanto, pertencente ou relativo ao vento.
O Parque Eólico de Sines foi construído há cerca de 8 anos e é constituído por 12 aerogeradores de 150 KW cada, e localiza-se em Monte Chãos situado a leste de Sines, a uma distância de 3 km da costa. Pertence à empresa "Aerogeradores de Portugal, SA" mas a área de implantação do parque é propriedade da Câmara de Sines.
A produção máxima por gerador é de 150 KW por hora. Esta produção é conseguida com a velocidade do vento de 40 km/h, transformada em 15.000 Volts e está ligada directamente à rede da EDP. A produção do parque eólico no seu todo representa o consumo anual do concelho de Sines (sem as indústrias).
Do local da cache conseguem ver-se ao longe os maiores, mais lentos e também muito mais poderosos aerogeradores do Parque Eólico da Costa Vicentina (3 unidades no Monte da Chaminé e 5 unidades no Monte das Pias, com uma potência unitária de 2MW) .
Mais perto contudo podemos ver outras duas grandes produtoras de energia (e não só): A Petrogal, com os seus inconfundíveis reservatórios de combustível e a EDP com os seus 4 grupos geradores de turbinas a vapor, que utilizam carvão para conseguir uma potência unitária de 314 MW.

Wind Power
Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form.
The idea of building a wind farm in Portugal grew in 1990 in the fertile minds of a group of Danish businessmen, one of whom had visited Melides in Portugal. A seven hectare site was chosen on Monte Chaos, a hill some 100 m high situated 3 km from the sea at the town of Sines. The land is owned by the local authorities and the technology and expertise were provided by a private company. Work began in April 1991 and six months later, the first wind turbines stood proudly facing the sea. The park consists of 12 wind turbines, distributed in three groups of four. Each turbine is 150 kW and the annual output of the wind farm is around 2.5 million kWh, equal to the energy consumption of the town of Sines (not counting industrial consumption).
From the cache place we can see, at some distance, the bigger, slower and also much more powerful turbines of the Costa Vicentina Wind Farm (3 units at Monte da Chaminé and 5 units at Monte das Pias, with an unitary power of 2MW) .
Although, closer, we can see the two other energy (among other things) producer. Petrogal, with it's remarkable fuel reservoirs and EDP (Portuguese Electricity Company) with its 4 turbo-generator groups, fuelled with coal with an unitary power of 314 MW.

A CACHE
Apesar de Portugal estar na liderança em termos de energia solar, nomeadamente com as centrais fotovoltaicas de Amareleja e Brinches, escolhemos a energia eólica para tema desta cache por duas razões: As medidas de segurança junta das centrais fotovoltaicas são enormes e a procura da cache é suspeita demais para passar despercebida, e os aerogeradores em funcionamento são muito mais impressionantes que os painéis solares.
Desafio: Coloque-se debaixo de um aerogerador que esteja a funcionar, olhe para cima e tente não ficar impressionado com a velocidade e poder da coisa.
Seja discreto na procura, a cache está logo ali e não há porque complicar.
Se não conseguir fazer o Found, quer seja por não encontrar a cache quer seja por não a poder procurar, terá que cumprir estes requisitos para ser autorizado a fazer o log na cache final do Projecto Alentejo:
- terá que registar o Not Found, notes não valem.
-terá que provar que esteve mesmo lá. Uma fotografia dos aerogeradores servirá.

Despite Portuguese leadership concerning solar energy, namely with the solar plants in Brinches/Serpa and Amareleja/Moura, we picked the Wind Power for two reasons: The security measures around the photovoltaic plants are huge and the cache hunt is way too much suspect, and the wind turbines, when working, are much more impressive than the solar panels sitting right there...
Challenge: Put yourself under a turbine that is actually working (pick one that don't make you trespass anything) look up and try not be impressed with the speed and power of the thing.
Be discrete in the hunt, the cache is right there, there's no reason to complicate.
If you cannot make the Found, no matter it's because you can't find it or you cannot look for it, you'll have to fill this requirements to be authorized to log your found in the final Alentejo Project Cache:
- You'll have to register your Not Found, notes aren't allowed.
-you'll have to prove that you've been there. A picture of the turbines will do.
