Start : Ste Baume car park
Start in Agay by car : At the roundabout, take the direction « St Raphaël par
l’intérieur », go under the little railway bridge, continue for a few km’s, and then
take the little road on your right indicating : « Massif de l’Estérel » (opposite a
garage).
Follow the road signs indicating « Col Notre Dame » and « Pic de l’Ours ». Stop
at the Ste Baume site (parking permitted on the roadside).
Remarks:
Esay, short path, but quite steep.
Take the steps to the chapel. The chapel was built into a natural recess in
the rocks. A mass is held there once a year during Saint-Honorat
Celebrations. Follow the path to your left for about 100 meters. At the
intesection, take a right, which takes you directly to the cave.
Be careful with children, this path is quite steep.
Before arriving at the cave, you will go underneath an ancient doorway,
that was built in the middle ages by the monks to protect themselves.
This place served as a hermitage to Saint-Honorat in the 5th century. The
story of this hermit is told inside the cave.
The site offers you a good view of the sea
and the Esterel Massif.

Départ : Parking de la Ste Baume
Accès en voiture par Agay : au rond point, prendre la direction « St Raphaël par
l’intérieur », passer sous le petit pont de la voie ferrée, dépasser la zone artisanale
et, tout de suite après, prendre à droite la petite route indiquée « Massif de
l’Estérel ».
Suivre ensuite les panneaux « Col Notre Dame » et s’arrêter au parking de la Ste
Baume.
Description
Monter l’escalier menant à la chapelle dans la roche. Continuer le chemin
jusqu’à la fontaine (eau de source potable).
Emprunter alors le chemin sur la gauche pendant 100 mètres. Vous
arrivez à une intersection. Prendre à droite le chemin qui monte
directement à la grotte où vécut l’ermite St Honorat au 4ème siècle avant
de fonder l’abbaye de Lérins sur l’ïle St Honorat au large de Cannes .

Retour en sens inverse.

Partenza: Parcheggio della Ste Baume
Accesso in macchina da Agay: alla rotatoria, prendere la
direzione «St Raphaël par l’intérieur», passare sotto il piccolo ponte della
ferrovia, oltrepassare la zona artigianale e, subito dopo, girare a destra sulla
strada che indica «Massif de l’Estérel».
Seguire in seguito i cartelli «Col Notre Dame» e «Pic de l’Ours» e fermarsi sul
sito della Ste Baume (parcheggio lungo la strada).
Osservazioni:
Sentiero corto ma abbastanza ripido. Nessuna difficoltà.
Salire i gradini che vanno alla cappella. Questa è stata costruita dentro una
rientranza naturale della roccia. Una messa veine celebrata una volta all’
anno durante la festa della St Honorat.
Continuare il sentiero fino alla fontana (acqua di sorgente potabile).
Prendere allora il sentiero a sinistra per 100 metri. Arriverete a un
incrocio: prendere a destra il sentiero che sale direttamente alla grotta.
Questo sentiero è abbastanza ripido et scosceso.
Prima di arrivare alla grotta, passerete sotto un’antica porta della
costruzione realizzata dai monaci durante medioevo per proteggere il sito.
Il luogo ha ospitato l’eremita St Honorat durante il V° secolo. La storia di
questo eremita è raccontata all’interno della grotta.
Il sito vi offre ugualmente un bel
panorama sul mare e su tutto il massiccio.
