Geocache Description:

Long Stroll in the Pyrete

**UPDATE : See waypoint 'PARKEASY' **

This cache is about the journey perhaps more so than the cache itself. The Pyrete state forrest is just S/W of Gisborne and a little known treasure. It's pretty much a bushwalking only place so very peaceful. I'd be surprised if you come across anyone in your whole walk. You could probably attack this one with a mountain bike also if you're keen though there's about as much up as there is down which you'll be pushing your bike up for sure.

This cache is really one for those who are ok at bush walking - note - ok, not legendary, just ok is fine. Probably a bit to hard for kids due to length and the 4WD tracks you walk along can get quite shaley and slippery so elderly might like to skip this one. From the parking waypoint it took me 1:20hrs to walk to GZ. The hills are steep so bring your hiking shoes and due to the remoteness come prepared. You're traveling along well graded fire trails the whole way.

I love the Pyrete area.. so little known and yet so close to Gisborne.

Please make note of the waypoints and follow my directions at Waypoints to get to GZ.

I'd take some lunch with you and plan on a 3 hour return trip, that'd be a good walk. It won't kill you, you'll actually enjoy it. You'll see some lovely quiet forrest with some great little valleys that just beckon you to setup a camp site and wait for Ned Kelly to come meandering out of the bush to join you for a billy of tea..

In the cache there is some history for you to read while you take a well earned break. There is also a little stump which makes an ok stool just a few mtrs away from GZ.

MOST IMPORTANT : let someone know where you are going.. whilst it's close to civilization this area is very infrequently visited.
