The Great River Road where this cache is located, runs through
Issaquena County in the Mississippi Delta. The name Issaquena comes
from two Indian words: issa, meaning deer, and
okhina, the poetic name of river (water road). The name is
in reference to Deer Creek which is a tributary of the Yazoo River.
The creek winds its way through many counties in the delta.
Now on to this specific location:
It's been quite a while since the sounds of worship have been
echoed in this small church. There isn't much left on the inside
except some old bibles and the wall plaques that use to keep up
with items such as attendance and bibles brought. The church was a
small African American Baptist church, but the name isn't found
anywhere on the exterior of the building, but upon inspection of
some of the items inside, you will find the name United Baptist
Church. The building is open, but be careful if you choose to
venture inside, since the building is beginning to decay.
Also located next to the church is a small cemetery, where I'm sure
some of the previous members have been laid to rest. Someone has
been keeping the grass cut and the grounds cleaned up, so hopefully
this little piece of history will last a little longer.
You will be looking for a small ammo can. I hope you enjoy the
hunt, and your drive along the Great River Road!
