News Updates
Update 02/25/2009: The store is up!
Update 12/14/2008: There will be free Wi-Fi on location Friday and
Saturday!
Update 10/21/08: While we are still deep in the planning and
firming up details process, we do want everyone to know several
exciting things are in the works. We have “insider” knowledge that
a good number of cachers are arriving early to enjoy the park and
available caches in the area. Committee members were busy over the
weekend scouting locations for new permanent ones to add to the
2009 ASP ‘Bash offering. “Officially” the ‘Bash opens at 1 PM
Friday. Friday will end with a movie and popcorn for the younger
set and tiki torch fire ring on the beach for the more mature set
(hint – watch the hill across the lake – you may see weird patterns
of light as others hunt down some of those night caches). We have
made arrangements for concessions and for two catered meals: Chili
on Friday evening and Chicken BBQ at midday Saturday. Check back in
January for details on partaking in them. In an effort to do our
part to become more environmentally friendly, this year we are
encouraging everyone to bring their reusable coffee mugs and water
bottles. Refills will be free in the welcome center. A few of the
education/ informational sessions we have lined up so far include
subjects from Earthcaching to Solar technology & Caching (bet
you’d love to know what that’s about!) and activities from
Stargazing and Nature walks to Caching with your GeoDog. As in
years past, we will be staffing a help desk with volunteers who
will give one-on-one pointers and explanations for new cachers or
veterans wishing specific assistance. Other activities at the ASP
GeoBash event will be the conclusion of the TB race that we started
at the 2008 event. We are giving you plenty of “heads up!” for the
2009 Creative Cache Contest – you can spend the cold winter months
creating a cache for your entry. Saturday will be a full day,
beginning early with socializing, education and ending late with an
old fashion street dance on the beach. There will be new permanent
caches released Friday and Saturday (including our famous night
caches.) There is a full schedule planned for all ages. Of course
this year our piñata is beary, beary cute!!! Allegany State Park
GeoBash has something for every cacher of every level of
experience: You can come to enjoy the dense cache area, socialize
with your fellow cachers, compete in cache-centered games, enjoy
the beauty of your surroundings; all this in the park described as
“a jewel of the NY State park system.” Sunday Morning – you are all
invited over to Group Camp 12 to join us for a pancake breakfast
which is sponsored, cooked and served by your committee and
volunteers.
Many thanks to our Sponsors!
