Jackson Peak Lookout was first established in 1927. The current
lookout was built in 1981 and is staffed every summer. It is
located at an elevation of 8124 feet. The road leading to the
lookout begins at Edna Creek Campground located north of Idaho City
on Highway 21. Once you turn off the pavement follow the Forest
Service signs to the lookout. There is a gate approximately a
quarter of a mile from the lookout. If it is closed you will have
to hike the final leg to the lookout. The cache is located along
the ridge between the gate and lookout.
