Geocache Description:

Have another cache named Bambi but when hiking thru the woods on this one almost stept on a live one!! Scared me to death!! Never have I been that close to a deer before. The baby Fawn was just laying there in the tall grass soaking up the sun. Did not move even after I gently tapt it with a small stick. I then proceed to "pet" this wild animal. Still did not move. Then all a sudden the fawn sprang up and ran amazingly fast away. Should have seen me jump!I will try to get the pics up on the cache page soon.
Vehicle Permits are required for all vehicles entering the
park, and can be purchased at the park office. If the park office is not open, permits can be purchased by depositing the permit fee into the envelope and payment box located just past the park office building. Please follow the instructions on the envelope. DNR Licenses (fishing, hunting, cross-country skii, etc.) can not be purchased at this park, but are available at nearby retail stores.
Big Marine Park Reserve is located in the northern part Washington County. It is owned and operated by Washington County and is part of the Metropolitan Council's Regional Park System. The park was selected as a regional facility because of its excellent natural resource features; including the St. Croix Valley/northeast ground moraine and high quality upland and wetland wildlife habitat. When completed, the park will be 1920 acres in size, with 80 percent of its acreage set aside for preservation and protection. This 80 percent will eventually resemble the land as it was prior to the arrival of the settlers in the mid-1800s.
The developed areas of the Reserve offer the following facilities:
- Boat Launch - General Picnic Area - Play Area (Very Nice)
- Swimming Beach w/ bath house
- Trails (Paved) Boat Launch The boat launch is open from 6 a.m. to 1/2 hour after sunset, and it accesses Big Marine Lake. The launch is closed in the winter. There are 33 parking spaces for vehicles with boat trailers. There must be a parking space available before you launch your boat; so if the parking lot is full, you may not launch. There is also a DNR boat launch on the north end of the lake.
Play Area There is a large 'destination' play area in the park, that is actually two play areas installed in one general location. There is an 18' slide, a large climbing net, a climbing rock, and more!
Swimming Beach
The clear-water swimming area includes 400 linear feet of sandy beach. Clean rest rooms, changing rooms, and vending machines are available in a nearby beach building. A nearby grassy area provides picnicking with tables and grills. Please note: Pets are only allowed on trails; and alcoholic beverages are not allowed anywhere within Big Marine Park Reserve.

I stoped by the vistor office before placing these caches and told them what I was doing and they were happy to find about geocaching because it is on their park survey on what brought you to the park. Please inform them and say thanks.
