Geocache Description:

This microcache is located at the Mt Christie picnic area, facing Mt Christie, the highest mountain in view at 10,180 ft.

This area is a favorite picnic site for the DAPS family, and is found between the Athabasca River and the highway. In the spring the shaded areas (beneath the lodgepole pines) abound with calypso flowers (violet ladyslippers) and mid-summer the open areas have many bright orange tiger lilies in bloom. You will find picnic tables and fireplaces overlooking the river, bear-proof garbage can and toilet.
Mount Christie was named for William Joseph Christie (1824-1886) chief factor for the Hudson's Bay Company of Edmonton from 1858 until 1871. He was in charge there when the famous Palliser expedition wintered in Edmonton.
Because this is in a national park, there are to be no trade items (including travel bugs)left in the container.
