Direkt an der Straße (Parkplatz vorhanden) ragt hier eine
vollkommen glatte Wand in die Höhe, die sogenannte Harnischwand.
Diese Wand ist, auch wenn es auf den ersten Blick nicht so aussehen
mag, natürlichen Ursprungs. Das in Stein gemeisselte
Naturdenkmal-Logo kann man rechts der Wand bewundern.
Sogenannte Harnischflächen entstehen an Verwerfungen, unter anderm
durch Reibung von Gestein gegen Gestein. Zurück blieben in der
Bewegungsrichtung geschrammte oder geglättete, zum Teil glänzende
(Spiegel-)Flächen. Harnischflächen müssen nicht unbedingt senkrecht
stehen, ihre jetzige Lage muss auch nicht die Position sein, in der
sie entstanden sind. Oft findet man sie solche Scherzonen in Höhlen
(Klüften). An einem der Stolleneingänge bei GC16AJH
findet man eine kleinere Ausgabe einer Harnischfläche. Eine
derartig große und so leicht zugängliche Harnischfläche wie hier
findet man aber selten, daher halte ich sie für cache-würdig, auch
wenn es "nur" ein drive-in ist.
Da ein Earthcache eine "Lernkomponente" haben soll, gilt es vor
der Logerlaubnis noch einige kleine Fragen zu beantworten (die
Antworten auf Frage 1 bis 2 sind per email übers Profil an mich zu
schicken):
1.) Wann wurde diese Harnischfläche entdeckt? (Logs, in denen die
Antwort auf diese Frage in irgendeiner Form enthalten ist, werden
kommentarlos gelöscht)
2.) Wie hoch ist der glatte Teil der Wand an der höchsten Stelle in
etwa?
wenn ihr wollt, könnt ihr auch Photos hochladen, vielleicht seid
ihr ja bei besonders schönen Lichtverhältnissen dort. Aber Achtung
auf den Straßenverkehr! Die Steilwand setzt sich verschiedenen
Taucherseiten zufolge nach unten im See fort. Vielleicht hat ja
jemand Unterwasserphotos.

Next to the road there is a steep wall with a very smooth surface,
called "Harnischwand" (Harnisch is the german word for
harness).
A fault is a fracture in the earth along which movement has
occurred. There are several different types of faults, and the type
of fault that forms is controlled by the type of stress that is
applied to a rock (compression, tension or shear). Thrust faults
are formed by compressive stresses, and therefore often form where
two tectonic plates collide, for example where an oceanic plate is
subducted (such as along the Aleutian Islands) or where two
continental plates collide and a mountain range is formed (such as
the Alps, as you can see at this place).
The fault plane doesn't have to be vertical, as it is the case
here. Often such planes can be found in caves. At one of the
entrances near GC16AJH
you can find a smaller fault plane. Such a large wall as here with
such an easy access is rarely to be found so I think it is worth a
cache.
An earthcache has to "teach" something, so you have to do a bit
of research before logging (send me the answers to question 1 to 2
per mail via the profile):
1.) When was this wall discovered? (All logs containing this
information will be deleted)
2.) How high is the highest part of the wall approximately?
If you like, upload a photo with your log. But mind the traffic!
According to diver's sites the steep wall continues underneath the
lake's surface. Underwater-photos would be great.

D:Falls der Parkplatz von Tauchern besetzt ist, kann man
sein Glück entlang der Straße bei anderen Parkbuchten oder
schlimmstenfalls etwas nordwestlich beim Gasthof Plomberg
versuchen. Dieser Earthcache kann gut mit GC1B4PT
kombiniert werden.
