Rekonstruētā senlatviešu pils Lielvārdē ir vienīgā vieta Baltijā, kur dabā iespējams iepazīt 11.-12.gs. senlatviešu valdnieka un viņa karadraudzes dzīvesvietu. Pili veidojis vēstures entuziasts un karikatūrists Agris Liepiņš. Pils rekonstrukcijai par pamatu ņemti arheoloģisko izrakumu materiāli un mākslinieciskā fantāzija.
Tā neatspoguļo kādu konkrētu Latvijas seno celti, bet ir veidota kā vispārināts tēls, kas ietver atsevišķas ēkas un aizsargsienu fragmentus no dažādu Latvija novadu pilīm - Talsiem, Daugmales, Mežotnes, Pizičiem, Rīgas, Tērvetes u.c.
Pils teritoriju apjož aizsargsiena, aiz kuras ļaudis slēpās uzbrukuma gadījumā, savukārt vidū ir dažas dzīvojamās mājas, virsaiša nams ar apspriežu zāli, svētakmens un aka, kas aplenkuma gadījumā bija nozīmīgs objekts. Pilis parasti atradās kalnu virsotnēs vai upju krastos, tāpēc maldīgs ir filmu radītais pieņēmums, ka koka pili iespējams nodedzināt ar vienu degošu bultu.

The reconstructed ancient Latvian castle in Lielvārde is the only place in the Baltics where in nature you can get acquainted with the residence of an ancient Latvian chief of the 11 - 12th century and his men. The castle was designed by history enthusiast and caricaturist Agris Liepiņš. The reconstruction of the castle ws based on the archaeological excavation materials and artistic imagination.
The reconstructed castle does not reflect any specific ancient building of Latvia but is made as a generalized image that contains several houses and fragments of safety walls from castles of different regions of Latvia - Talsi, Daugmale, Mežotne, Piziči, Rīga, Tērvete and others.
The territory of the castle is enclosed by a defensive wall, which protected the people during attacks, and on the inside there are several dwelling houses, the chieftains`s home with meeting hall, a sacred stone ans a well, which was crucial in times of a siege. Castles are usually build on hilltops or riverbanks; therefore, the presumption that a castle can be burned down with a single fire arrow is misleading.
When visiting the castle, in your fantasy you can return to a distant past - get acquainted with the construction of safety wall, wonder about unusual sizes of the houses, find out more about the past heating systems and the lifestyle of ancient Latvian. On the drawings it is possible to see what ancient Latvians were wearing, what there ornaments and household objects were like.
Task: It is the very beginning of the 13th century. You - the very last great Viking, have arrived from your Scandinavian lands far away and are now standing in front of the gates of the mighty Lielvardes Livs elder to speak to him in person. You dont have to visit the reconstructed castle to find the geocache, but if you want to, please note: the castle is open from Thursday till Sunday from 10.00 to 19.00!
