The cache consists of a tupperware box containing a variety of goodies. For reasons that will be obvious to any visitors the cache is not actually on the top of the Tor but is pretty much as near as you can get. When you have found the split thorn tree you will know you are there!
Glastonbury Tor a Prominent hill , You can park your car at the nearby free Somerset Rural Life Museum (closed Sundays and Mondays). Glastonbury Tor is one of Somerset's most magical and mythical landmarks. It can be seen from a great distance and in certain weather conditions, particularly when mists cover the Somerset Levels the Tor and tower can stand out giving it a mythical feel that we may associate with the Legendary King Arthur. A chapel was built around 1100 which was destroyed by a powerful earthquake in 1275 and the tower is all the remains today. The sacred Glastonbury Thorn is thought to have been planted at the foot of the Tor by Joseph of Aramathea. When he landed on the Isle of Avalon he thrust his staff into the ground and when he woke up from his rest he found that it had sprouted into a bush. If you climb the Tor on a clear day you will get some magnificent views on the surrounding landscape. To the north you will see the Mendip Hills together with the City of Wells and its cathedral; to the west the island of Steep Holm in the Bristol Channel; Brent Knoll to the north-west; the Polden Hills and Quantock Hills to the south-west, and the Black mountains of Wales in the far distance. Glastonbury has a long history and an even longer legend! King Arthur and Queen Guinevere are even said to be buried here. Jesus and Joseph of Arimathea came on business, and Joseph returned with the Holy Grail. The Tor itself is often said to be the Isle of Avalon and is thought to guard the gateway to the underworld. Whatever you want to believe, it is a fantastic place to visit. At sunset a variety of people nucleate towards the ruined tower of St. Michael's at the top of the 160m hill. The Park & Ride bus links the town of Glastonbury with the Tor and other important sites. Glastonbury Abbey is a good place to start. There are no National Trust car parks at the Tor. Please park responsible around the roads up to the Tor. The nearest FEE paying car park is at Draper and Co on Chilkwell St. (2 mins walk)
