Geocache Description:

A cache placed in recognition of National Train Day (5/10/08). Please do not go near the Railroad tracks!! This is #3 in a series of Railroad History Caches highlight history of active rail lines in Oregon. There was a non-activated TB tag for FTF, congrats to Carolgirl for FTF!

On 11/12/1890 there was a major railroad disaster at Lake Labish, Oregon. A Southern Pacific passenger train was crossing a long trestle that collapsed killing 5 injuring 122. Lake Labish has long since been drained and is now farmland. The cache lies just north of this fateful location. When driving north on I-5 you will notice the long fill the Railroad currently runs on with one small trestle bridge. In 1890 the fill was all trestle.

The Trestle
The Collapsed Trestle
