Steilufer im Nationalpark
Steilküsten entstehen durch den natürlichen Landabtrag des Meeres. Dabei entstehen fast senkrecht abfallende vegetationsarme Pionierbiotope mit teils extremen mikroklimatischen Bedingungen.
Erdgeschichte zum Anfassen
Die aktiven Steilufer des Nationalparkes Jasmund stellen den größten geologischen Aufschluss Norddeutschlands dar. Auf Grund der sturmexponierten Lage Jasmunds sind die Steilufer bis in die Gegenwart aktiv, d.h. es finden immer wieder Abtragungsprozesse statt, die die Küstenlinie allmählich ins Hinterland verlagern, und verhindern, dass sich eine Pflanzendecke ausbreiten kann. So sind hier ständig Gesteinsschichten “aufgeschlossen”, die anderen Orts nicht oder nur punktuell und zeitlich begrenzt zugänglich sind. Bei einer Strandwanderung trifft man nicht nur auf die weiße Kreide mit Schichten schwarzer Feuersteinknollen. Auch Geschiebemergel, die von eiszeitlichen Gletschern abgelagert worden sind sowie sandige Ablagerungen von Schmelzwässern bauen den Untergrund auf. Mit den eiszeitlichen Geschieben finden sich Dokumente für viele Epochen der erdgeschichtlichen Vergangenheit des skandinavisch-baltischen Raumes.

Steepcoasts in the National Park.
Steepcoasts occure by a natural loss of land due to the activities of the sea. As a result, steep gradients are emerging with a limit of vegetation and micro-climatic
terms.
Hands on geology.
The active steepcoasts at Jasmund National Park represents the most visible outcrop in the north of Germany. Due to the storm-exposed position of Jasmund, the steepcoast are still active in theses days and the process of erosion is still working the coastline towards the innerland and foreclose the growing of any plants.
The rock formation is allways open and withhin a walk at the beach, you may see formation of white chalkstone with capsuled flintstone, as also boulder clay, which where deposited in boulder period by the snowmelt of glaciers. With this ice aged bedload, we can see witnesses of many geology epoches of the scandinavian- and baltic area.
Question
Which are the three kinds of steepcoast, you can find at Jasmund National Park and what are their individual specifics? You will not find the answers at the location of the cache.
