ALUE
Kallioalue Vantaan kaupungissa Kehä 3:n itäpään itäpuolella. Paikkaa voi lähestyä kaakosta Itäväylältä Kehä 3:n itäpuolta jyrkänteen reunaa tai idästä metsän läpi. Kaakkoinen reitti on sopiva niille, joita kiinnostaa nähdä vulkaanisia kivilajeja. Itse kohteessa on vaarallisia jyrkänteitä, ja se on maisemaltaan harvinainen pääkaupunkiseudulla. Koordinaatit voivat olla epätarkat, mutta se ei haittaa, koska kohde on iso ja näkyvä.
LIIKKUMINEN ALUEELLA
Liikut yksityisalueella, joten esim. roskaaminen, aidan vahingoittaminen ja muu haitanteko vahingoittavat geokätköilijöiden ja etenkin täällä käyvien kiipeilijöiden mainetta. Älä siis kiipeä aidan yli, muista muutenkin hyvä käytös, ja katso lisätietoja tästä.
GEOLOGISET TAUSTATIEDOT
Kallio koostuu kerroksellisesta tuffiitista (kivettyneestä tulivuoren tuhkasta), jossa on myös laavakerroksia. Tuffiitti on melko vaaleaa eli felsistä ja kerrokset ovat ohuita (yhdestä muutamaan senttiin). Laavakerrokset ovat vähän tummempia eli mafisempia, ja niissä on paikoin epäselvää tyynylaavamaista rakennetta. Alueella on myös suuria lohkareita. Etelä-Suomessa lohkareet voivat olla alkuperältään kolmenlaisia:
1. Ne ovat rapakiveä ja tulleet paikalle jääkauden lopulla idästä kelluvien jäävuorien mukana. Tällöin lohkareet ovat yleensä vain vähän kuluneita eli ne ovat vielä melko kulmikkaita.
2. Ne ovat tulleet paikalle aikaisemmin luoteesta kaakkoon etenevän jäätikön mukana. Liikkuvan mannerjään tuomat lohkareet ovat usein kuluneet osin pyöreiksi.
3. Ne ovat paikallisia eli niiden irtoamispaikka voi olla näköetäisyydellä. Tällaiset lohkareet eivät ole kuluneita eli ne ovat yleensä hyvin kulmikkaita.
KOHTEEN GEOLOGIA
Itse kohde on kallioalueen pohjoisosassa. Se on ryhmä suuria lohkareita, joista suurimmat ovat noin 6 m korkeita.
TEHTÄVÄ
1. Päättele lohkareiden muodosta ja kivilajista mistä ne ovat peräisin. Ovatko ne siis edellä kuvatun mukaan tulleet paikalle tavalla 1, 2 vai 3?
2. Lähetä vastauksesi kätkön omistajalle esimerkiksi Message Centerin kautta. Kun olet tämän tehnyt, voit logata kätkön löydetyksi. Jos vastauksessasi on jotain korjattavaa, otamme yhteyttä. Jos haluat, voit liittää lokiisi kuvan.
AREA
Rocky hill in City of Vantaa on the eastern side of the east end of the road Kehä 3. You can approach the site from the south-east along the eastern side of Kehä 3 or from the east through the woods. The south-eastern route is good for those who want to see the volcanic rock types of this area. There are dangerous cliffs on the site, and it shows a rare landscape type in the metropolitan area.
BACKGROUND GEOLOGY
The bedrock consists of felsic layered tuffite (former volcanic ash) and some intermediate lava beds with some unclear pilow lava type structures. There are some large boulders too in the area. In Southern Finland there are three kinds of boulder´s origins:
1. The boulder´s rock type is rapakivi granite and it has come here from the east with a floating iceberg at the end of the ice age. This kind of boulder is often only slightly abraded.
2. The boulder has come on to its current location earlier from the north-west with the active moving ice sheet. This kind of boulder is often quite rounded.
3. The boulder is local, and maybe one can see its loosing place. This type of boulder is not rounded but very angular.
GEOLOGY OF THIS SITE
The site is in the northern part of the rocky hill. It is a group of large boulders up to 6 meters in height.
TASK
1. Study the shape and rock type of the boulders and conclude their origin. Is the origin of these boulders type 1, 2 or 3?
