Ginko je pravdepodobne najznámejšia tzv. živá fosília vo svete rastlín. Podľa fosílií sa zistilo, že rástlo už v druhohorách,
no jeho predkovia sú omnoho starší a ich pôvod siaha až do prvohôr (cca 300 milónov rokov). V treťohorách bol jeho výskyt síce už na ústupe, ale v tej dobe rástol aj na území dnešného Slovenska. Dnes sa prirodzene nachádza už iba na malom území v Číne, inak sa s obľubou vysádza ako okrasný strom v parkoch a záhradách. Ginko je ihličnatá drevina, i keď vyzerá skôr ako listnatý strom. Jeho druhové meno odkazuje na charakteristický tvar jeho listov. Plody stromu sú žlté a po dozretí výrazne zapáchajú. Spolu s listami obsahujú flavonoidy, terpenoidy, fenolycké látky, organické kyseliny a iné liečivé látky.
Sú to veľmi odolné stromy schopné prežiť v nepriaznivých podmienkach, odolať klimatickým zmenám, ale aj katastrofám ako výbuch jadrovej bomby (Hirošima v Japonsku). Proti čomu však nič nezmôžu, sú ľudia. Keď sa niekto rozhodne, že mu strom stojí v ceste, tak ho jednoducho vyrúbe bez ohľadu na to, či je zničený a pomaly odumiera, alebo zdravý v plnej sile a schopný prežiť tu ešte mnoho rokov.
Táto skrýša vznikla na podnet arogantného vyrúbania jedného zo štyroch giniek v Trenčíne, ktorého sme boli náhodou očitými svedkami. Snáď tu si prírodu vážia viac a dúfame, že tunajšie ginká nepostihne podobný osud.
Ginkgo is probably the best known so called living fossil plants in the world. By fossils found they were growing in Mesozoic. However, its ancestors are much older and dates back to the Paleozoic (about 300 years of millions). They were occuring less and less during Tertiary, but at that time grew in the territory of today's Slovakia. Today is naturally present has only a small area in China. Otherwise they are often planted in parks and gardens. Ginko is a conifer, although it looks more like a deciduous tree. Its species name refers to the characteristic shape of its leaves. Tree fruits are yellow when mature and much odor. Fruits and leaves contain flavonoids, terpenoids, phenolic compounds, organic acids and other medicinal substances.
They are very strong trees survive in adverse conditions, resist climate change, as well as disaster explosion of a nuclear bomb (Hiroshima, Japan). Against which, however, do not help, people. When someone decides that a tree stand in his way, simply cut down it. Regardless of whether it is destroyed and slowly dying tree or healthy and able to survive there for many years.
The cache was initiated by arrogant felling of one of the four Ginkgo trees in Trenčín town, which we happen to have been eyewitnesses. We believe that people respect nature here more and hope that the local Ginkgo would not affect a similar fate.
