Hopefully this will not be a cache and dash in a popular area on the outskirts of Banff.
Stunning views over Banff Links and beach with a 1/2 mile stretch of golden sand, a great surfing and water sports area, with knock head and Whitehills in the background. If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of the Moray Firth dolphins at play in the bay.
Banff is within easy reach of the magnificent coastal trail with its footpath, wildlife-watching opportunities and other attractions.
The name Banff is thought to come from Scottish Gaelic meaning ‘Young Pig' or from a stream called ‘Pigs Burn'. The town started off as a port in the 10th century and became a royal centre at the end of the 12th century. The town was created a royal burgh in 1372. A town of architectural surprises: Greek columns, crow-stepped gables, Venetian windows and delicate steeples and a Seven-arch Bridge that spans the river Deveron.
A feature of the town is its Georgian architecture and Banff has been designated an Outstanding Conservation Area. Duff House, in the Deveron valley, is an impressive Georgian mansion and is open to visitors as a country house gallery with fine paintings and artifacts drawn from the National Galleries of Scotland and private lenders.
On a clear day you can see Caithness with its highest peak Morven.
