In keeping with Cache U Nutter's caches some warning should be given and heeded. This challenge is NOT suitable for children and is taken entirely at your own risk. Some agility is needed as will the need to go all fours, along with some other techniques depending on your route. This a fairly loose, chalky and muddy surface which is slippy enough whilst dry - probably worse when wet. Much of the few available handholds are thorny, so gloves and protective clothing will aid your ascent. If you miss your footing you will hurt yourself. I made the mistake of going up in shorts and T shirt - I shouldn't have.
If you decide to approach from above, remember that there is thirty feet of cliff to fall from, if you get it wrong.
A route that follows ancient trackways along the chalk ridges and wooded downland of Surrey and Kent through Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, grazing the southern edge of greater London and ending at the celebrated White Cliffs, with an optional loop via Canterbury. It was opened as a National Trail in 1978. For much of its length the Way parallels the old route known as the Pilgrim's Way between Winchester and Canterbury. Much of the traditional route of the Pilgrim's Way is now part of the modern road network and walkers wishing to follow it are advised to use the North Downs Way as an alternative.
Nearest official parking is available off Pinesfield Lane in the Coldrum long barrow car park (parking is also available in the Trosley country park). Follow the bridalway down from the carpark turn left at the end and turn right when you get to the Pilgrim's way. If you decided to do a sneaky park at N 51° 19.487 E 000° 23.278 (either a sub station or small water treatment works).head straight up the path (your goal is at the left of the two cliff faces) and over the Pilgrim's Way (where you would meet any Coldrum parkees) and up the steps. At some point on the way up (I chose approx 50 metres) you need to head right from the steps and make a decision on how to approach. When you get to the cliff face you need to be on the right hand side of gulley. The chalk boulders above your head are large so keep an eye on them, as they'll probably hurt if they fall on the old noggin - you should not have to climb the cliff face. Please make sure the cache is tucked back out of view, amazingly you will see Grafitti if you look closely enough.
