GEOLOGISET TAUSTATIEDOT
Meren pinnan korkeus Itämeressa on jääkauden jälkeen muuttunut hitaasti lähes koko ajan, ja enimmäkseen se on laskenut. Kun rantaviiva on ollut pidempään samalla paikalla, rantavoimat (aallokko ja talvinen jää) ovat usein jättäneet paikalle jonkun jäljen. Rantavoimien työ voi olla kuluttavaa tai maa-ainesta kasaavaa, ja näin syntyneitä muodostumia sanotaan rantamerkeiksi, jotka osoittavat muodostumisen aikaisen rantaviivan paikan. Kasaantuneet muodostumat ovat yleensä kivisiä, soraisia tai hiekkaisia vöitä tai valleja.
KOHTEEN GEOLOGIA
Tässä kohteessa on kuiville jäänyt aaltojen kasaama hiekkavalli, jota tiheä nuori kuusikko sitoo ja suojaa. Valli ei ole kovin kaukana nykyisestä rantaviivasta, joten se on geologisesti katsoen aika nuori.
TEHTÄVÄ
1. Arvioi karkeasti vallin harjan korkeustaso nykyisestä merenpinnasta, ja laske sen ikä, kun oletetaan, että meren pinta on laskenut 30 cm sadassa vuodessa.
2. Arvioi karkeasti myös vallin koko pituus.

BACKGROUND GEOLOGY
The sea level of Baltic Sea has changed nearly all the time after the last ice age, and mostly it has been going down. When the shore line stayed at a same elevation level a longer time, the shore forces (waves and ice cover in winter) have often left some kind of mark of their activity. This shore force activity can be erosional or depositional, and these formations are called shore marks. They show the shore line of the time of their formation. The depositional shore marks are often belts, banks or bars consistig of boulders, gravel or sand.
GEOLOGY OF THIS SITE
On this site you can see an old sand bar on dry land. Because the bar is not far away from the current shore line, it is geologically quite young. The bar is covered and stabilized by young spruces.
TASK
1. Estimate roughly the elevation level (from current sea level) of the top of the shore bar, and calculate it´s age with the assumption that the sea level has lowered 30 cm in 100 years.
2. Also roughly estimate the length of the bar.
3. Send your answers to the owner for example via Message Center. You can log the cache after you have sent the answers. If there's something wrong, we will contact you. If you wish, you may upload a photo in your log.
