The recent weather got me thinking about how Surreal the Seasons can be in Wisconsin. You're sporting a T-shirt one day and the next you are out in your snow boots. Sure is nice to have Spring back so we can get out again and Pick some cache fruit without getting chilled to the Root of our beings. It was a long Winter and just as I was starting to feel rather Pessimistic about Winter hanging on so long, we got a nice warm spell. A week later my Optimism was tested as I looked out to see new falling snow. Thankfully, it was just a short-lived illusion and Winter seems to have uttered it's last breath.
We go through this every year and just have to remember to keep things in Perspective. Is the glass Half-Empty of Half-Full of? For Winter enthusiasts it was a great year brimming over the edge with opportunity, but even they were getting tired of it and yearning for Summer heat.
The artist represented above appreciated these Seasonal sentiments well and represented them in his most famous works. He was a pioneer in Surrealist art and though he was largely ignored for 400 years is seen today by many of his piers as the "father of Surrealism".
He was born in Milan, Italy and initially worked with his father on the decorations and paintings of cathedrals. He later moved to Vienna to be the official portraitist of the Imperial Court, and a year later painted the first versions of the Seasonal Portraits pictured above. A decade later he moved to Prague to organize the entertainments for the wedding of the King of France. He returned to Milan later in life and lived there to the end of his days.
One of these works became a stamp for Italy. There are a couple of numbers on the top of that stamp. We'll call them ABCD and EFGH. Another of these has a date cleverly worked into the painting, we'll call that IJKL. Your equation is N44°AB.C(D-2)E W88°(L-1)F.H(K+2)J
