Geocache Description:

Kerameikos ImageThe archaeological site of the Kerameikos, between Ermou, Peireos, and Asomaton Streets, is a small part of the ancient Attic Deme of Kerameon, one of the largest demes of ancient Athens, located on the northwest edge of the city. As suggested by its name, the Kerameikos (from the Greek word for pottery) was a settlement of potters and vase painters, and the main production centre of the famous Attic vases. Those parts of the Kerameikos that were located near the riverbank suffered continuously from the overflowing river, and so the area was converted into a burial ground, which gradually developed into the most important cemetery of ancient Athens.
In our contemporaneous years the area has been elected with one beautiful broad, lovely pedestrian road, which was constructed to highlight the area of Kerameikos. It is better to take this road if you want to walk to Technopolis Gazi, to see an exposition or to visit the very important museum of Kerameikos.
The cache is a nano cylinder (diameter 0,8cm x 1cm tall) that contain only a very small logbook. Sign only with a date and name and have with you your own pencil.
Enjoy the walk in this nice area of Athens from where you will have a nice view to Acropolis, Lycabetous and Kerameikos.
Have fun
