Geocache Description:

A small sized cache that is located on the route of the old Freshwater, Yarmouth, Newport Railway line.

Please replace with care - this has been left out in the open too many times, hence being muggled too many times. Thanks.

Initially constructed in 1886 – 1888, it started full passenger use in May 1889.
It was never the most successful line and operated in bankruptcy for many years.
The final axe fell, along with many other rail lines, with the last train running on 20 Sept 1953.

This part of the line has been retained for public use although the rails and sleepers are long gone. It is currently possible to cycle from Thorley Road in Yarmouth, through Yarmouth Station, to the end of the line at Freshwater.
All of the cycle path is within an AONB and much of it is beside the Yar estuary, a haven for birds and other wildlife and parts designated as an SSSI, Special Protection Area and a Special Area of Conservation!
If you have time to spare the ancient village of Yarmouth is well worth an explore with quirky shops, a fortress from Henry the 8th’s period and some lovely pubs and tea rooms.

The cache is a 1/4 litre tupperware tub. Enjoy.

Moved to new hide after recent mugglings. It is a little overlooked however without much effort you can easily disguise your intentions looking at the view/ ducks!
