Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed coordinates

...but parking is.

After a day of hiking and caching on Mt. Wanda, I returned home and even before I could take my hiking boots off, my wife challenged me to a round of our favorite board game. How could I say no? She set up the board as I got myself a glass of water and we sat down to play.

We each chose tiles from the bag and she went first. After rearranging her tiles on her rack numerous times, she finally played a word: ZOMBIFY, with the Z doubled no less!! With an opening move like that, I knew I was in trouble!

I followed with WAX. Not as strong a start as her, but it would have to do. I drew my tiles and waited for her next turn.

I guess she blew her wad with that first play, because all she could muster next was FEE. She picked two tiles from the bag, maybe I could catch up on my next turn.

I looked at my tiles for a while, that triple word score teasing me with such big letters in my hand. Finally I saw it: HACKER. “Sweet, I’m back in this!!” I thought to myself.

She was up next, and my bubble was burst rather quickly. Almost immediately she laid down SQUARKS. How does she come up with these words?!?

It was my turn, and after a bit of deliberating, I played CREAM off of the first word played. Picking more tiles from the bag, I hoped for some good letters.

I watched her again, madly shuffling the tiles in her rack. I could tell she was onto something, when she revealed her next word: DOTINGLY.

Luckily that opened up another red square, and I was determined to take advantage of it. Two V’s in my rack, I really wanted to make it work, when there I saw my next word: VIVIDLY!

Next up she played BASE, no real damage there. I followed with SAUCE. Her next word was VEE, which I countered with JAR (I wish I could have made better use of that J!)

TREE was the next word up for her; she seemed to be slowing down. I decided to finally utilize the first blank of the game with the word CAMMOED. She eyed me suspiciously and told me that wasn’t a real word. I told her it most certainly was, we cachers use it all the time. She challenged the word, so I went to the study to grab the dictionary.

While I was in there, I happened to see a new cache notification on my computer screen. “Hmmm, a new cache in town... this could be a First to Find.” I told my wife that an “emergency” had come up; she asked how long I would be gone. I told her not too long, to which she rolled her eyes. I’m sure she thought it was a ploy to make her forget about her challenge, but she said to go for it anyway, she’d continue the slaughter when I get home.

Oh well, you can’t win ‘em all!
