Geocache Description:

This is a multi cache which forms part of an *inter-linked* trio. This should give a nice introduction to the fun, family walking on Bannerdown Common and the Fosseway Roman road which crosses it. The trio should take anything from 20 mins to over an hour (for a very relaxed summer dawdle!).

Park at the given co-ordinates.

STAGE 1
Look for the telephone number of the 'Batheaston Freeholders Committee' near the bottom right of the board.
(IGNORE the new sheet on the left which gives a number to phone in case of problems.)
Take the area code (the first 5 numbers) and label them abcde.
Then go to N51 25.e(c-b+e)c W002 ed.a a (d-(4 x e))

STAGE 2
Once you arrive look around you for the initials GFH and a date. Label this date fghi
Then go to N51 24.dg(2 x i) W002 17.cc(g-f)

STAGE 3 - Final Cache
You are looking for a Trig Point.
(This shouldn't be too overgrown as the Cotswold Wardens have cleared a lot of the undergrowth)
Look for its number and label this jklm.
The Cache is hidden at N51 24.(j+k+l)(j x k)k W002 18.(j-k)(k+l)(jxj).
(There is no need to climb on or over the new fence or dry stone wall.)

BACKGROUND
Bannerdown Common is within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has had many uses during its life, including quarrying, grazing, and the production of timber products. It is now a Registered Common with public access, managed to promote nature conservation.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT/ALTERNATIVES
It would be possible to do this trio starting at the bus stop or car park in Batheaston (parade of shops and George & Dragon and White Lion pubs opposite car park). This would give a longer and more strenuous walk following the Fosseway up on to Bannerdown.

This trio could be further combined by walking west down in to the valley, then returning south through Batheaston North End (where there is a very nice village pub).
