The Secret History of the Mongols Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

dogez: As much as I hate to do this...I am archiving this cache for the time being. If there is not another cache hidden there in the next few months I will replace it but I could not get down to Westchester in the time frame I had hoped. This cache was my favorite one and a fun one, mixing history and fun for families.

Geocache Description:

Entrance to pathway is at Depot Plaza (one side of train station) which is in back of CVS in Scarsdale. There is a nice waterfall at the entrance to the trail. Parking is mostly metered in the village, Garth Road and surrounding streets. Terrain is paved until you get in area of cache site.

This cache is dedicated to the greatest of all the world conquerors...Genghis Khan. From the steppes of Mongolia he and his descendants (Ogudei and Kublai Khan)expanded an empire 4 times the size of Alexander the Great. He forged eastward into China and westward through Persia, Central Asia, Armenia, Russia and as far as the gates of Vienna.
Born in Mongolia as Temujin, (thought between the land where the 2 rivers Onon and Balj meet)he took the name Genghis Khan, meaning "universal ruler" in 1206 after being successful in some of his Asian conquests.
The book, "The Secret History of the Mongols" is the first piece of literature of Mongolian history that chronicles Genghis Khan's life. However, the biggest secret is where Genghis Khan is buried. Despite many archeological inquiries, no one knows the location of his burial place. Some say the Mongols know but will never tell.
This cache is filled with Genghis' horses, one of the crucial elements of his successful conquests besides his warriors. The Mongolians were and still are superb horsemen.
Come and join the Mongol horde!
Please pick your horse and claim your territory. Keep your horse as a souvenir, move the horse to another cache location or conquer an area and set up a cache there. It is all up to you. This cache is also accepting any other swag and TB's.
****(For the Mongols "ovoos" or little pyramids of stone are left to honor the spirit of the place and the man.)****
