Geocache Description:

This cache is our hardest yet, but the views are worth the struggle.

Billy Billy Rocks was a place that captured our imagination years ago when we visited Tidbinbilla for bushwalks. It stands at the head of the valley, visible from many places throughout the reserve. One day we found out the name of that spectacular clump of rocks, and walked in to it. It was, and still is, a great spot with clumps of enormous granite boulders clearly visible on Google Earth. From points on this crest there are excellent views down the Tidbinbilla valley and on to Canberra.

Regrowth since the 2003 fires makes this more of a challenge than it was in the past, but this cache has been placed by ourselves with McPhan coming along for company - none of us are super athletes so if we can do it so can many others. The walk took us about two hours each way. We expect that a couple of you will do it in less! Allow time to explore or laze on the rocks with a cuppa and snack.

There are a couple of ways to get in to Billy Billy Rocks. Here's the way we came, with a couple of suggested waypoints below. We parked the car off the road where a track leaves the Corin Dam road on the right, about 13.5 km from the corner. Small (soft) 4WDs will manage this track, but conventional vehicles will need to find a parking spot nearby. To avoid the thickest undergrowth along creek lines you might wish to load WP1 and head for that first, then to WP2. WP3 is an easy avenue up through the rocks, avoiding some small nests of blackberries.

The cache is simply hidden, but as reception around the rocks can be a problem we have provided several spoiler photos to use in sequence as you get closer to the cache. The given location is a clear spot about 10m south of the cache. Stand there, look toward Canberra and use the photos to approach the cache. We hope you enjoy Billy Billy Rocks - we think this location rocks!!
