Bei der Bodenmühle am Roten Main befindet sich einer der wenigen natürlichen Gesteinsaufschlüsse im Mittleren Keuper Nordostbayerns. Er gilt seit langer Zeit als wichtiges Dokument für die damals typischen Meeresablagerungen und ihre heutigen Lagerungsverhältnisse. Berühmt wurde er aber vor allem durch wertvolle Fossilfunde.

Besonders in der Zeit, als noch nicht viele Bohrungen und Straßeneinschnitte Informationen über die Keupergesteine lieferten, galt der Prallhang an der Außenseite der Flussschleife als wichtiges Forschungsobjekt.

Auch heute hat er seine Bedeutung nicht verloren, denn bei jedem Hochwasser werden frische Schichtanschnitte freigelegt, die ihre Geheimnisse preisgeben.

At the Bodenmühle am Roten Main you will find one of the few natural outcrop of middle Keuper (or Late Triassic) in the north-east of Bavaria. The Bodenmühlwand has been known for long times as an important document for the typical marine accumulation in the past and stratification of today. Above all the Bodenmühlwand is famous for the valuable fossils found there.

Especially in the former times when not many drillings and road constructions gave information about Keuper, the hillside at the outside of the bow of the river was an important object of study.

But also today it has not become less important as with every flood waters new rock formations are laid open.
