Geocache Description:

This cache can be found at Alderholt, a short distance from Fordingbridge. The settlement of Fordingbridge (just Forde then) was noted in the Domesday Book of 1066. Parking is available in the village where various footpaths lead you to the cache, or in a muddy layby just north of the village on the main Fordingbridge to Cranborne Road (near a garden centre with an excellent café).

This cache is beside the old railway line. Daggons Road Railway Station was a station serving the village of Alderholt, in Dorset, England, to the south west of Fordingbridge, in Hampshire. It was one of many casualties of the mass closure of British railway lines in the 1960s and 1970s; the last service was on 4th May 1964. It was served by a line running North-South, along the River Avon just to the West of the New Forest, connecting Salisbury to the North and Poole to the South. Today, the road through the centre of Alderholt village is still called Station Road, changing to Daggons Road at the point where the line crossed the road. A residential cul-de-sac named Station Yard occupies the land where the station once stood on the north side of Daggons Road, and there is another named Churchill Close opposite to the South The cache is a small (1 litre) box with a selection of quite small swaps. Only really suitable for the smallest of travel bugs and coins. THERE IS NO PARKING ON SANDLEHEATH ROAD BETWEEN THE RAILWAY BRIDGE AND SANDLEHEATH – PLEASE DON’T TRY! There is parking on Station Road, opposite th Reading Room, at N50 54 841 W001 49 813
