Igreja de Santa Maria, Sintra
Após a conquista de Sintra aos Mouros, por D. Afonso Henriques, construiu-se naquele local uma ermida, que foi demolida no final do séc. XIII para dar origem à construção de uma nova igreja. Esta igreja, no estilo gótico, seria a sede da paróquia de Santa Maria, uma das quatro paróquias da vila de Sintra, sendo as restantes S. Miguel, S. Pedro e S. Martinho.
Actualmente a freguesia de Santa Maria e S. Miguel estão unidas, restando ainda as freguesias de S. Pedro e de S. Martinho.
A igreja foi totalmente alterada no final do século XIII e início do XIV.
A fachada principal foi totalmente reconstruída após uma destruição parcial provocada pelo terramoto de 1755.

After conquering Sintra, by D. Afonso Henriques, was built in that place a chapel, which was demolished at the end of the XIII century to build a new church. This church, in the Gothic style, was the seat of the parish of Santa Maria, one of the four parishes of Sintra. The remaining are S. Miguel, S. Pedro and S. Martinho. Now the parishes of Santa Maria and S. Miguel are united.
This church was completely changed in the late thirteenth and early fourteenth century.
The main facade was completely rebuilt after a partial destruction caused by the 1755 earthquake.
