Another bit of information for the history buffs out there. How things have changed!

Easy cache and dash. Please don't disturb the vegetation.

The history plaque has been stolen. Not sure if it will be replaced. Here is what it said:

SITE OF THE CATHEDRAL OF THE SACRED HEART

DEDICATED ON FEBRUARY 6, 1846

THIS CATHEDRAL WAS THE ONLY CATHOLIC CATHEDRAL NORTH OF SAN FRANCISCO AND IT SERVED THE ARCHDIOCESE OF OREGON CITY, WHICH INCLUDED ALL OF THE OREGON TERRITORY.

THE CATHEDRAL WAS OFFICIALLY MOVED TO PORTLAND IN AUGUST 1862, AND THE NAME OF THIS CHURCH WAS CHANGED TO ST. JOHN THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH AND CONTINUED TO SERVE OREGON CITY UNTIL1947, WHEN IT WAS RAZED AND A NEW CHURHC WAS BUILT ON 4TH AND CENTER STREETS IN UPPER OREGON CITY. THIS PLAQUE IS DEDICATED THIS 8TH DAY OF FEBRUARY 1995, ON THE FIRST DAY OF OUR 150TH ANNIVERSARY, BY THE PEOPLE OF ST. JOHN THE APOSTLE CATHOLIC CHURCH.
