Geocache Description:

February 7, 2008

Today marks the start of the Spring Festival and Chinese New Year, and is a time of celebration for more than a billion Chinese people all over the world. Each year on the Chinese calendar is named after an animal, and 2008 (or 4706 on the Chinese calendar) is the Year of the Rat!

The rat is a highly respected animal in Asian culture, and as such, was given the first place in the 12-year Zodiac cycle. People born in the Year of the Rat are said to be clever, bright, enterprising, courageous, and hard-working. As the start of each cycle, the Rat represents renewal, new beginnings, and perserverence. This is a good year to start something new!

To the Chinese, The Year of the Rat is a year of happiness, good fortune, hope, and renewal. We're certainly hoping this comes true for you this year, and we are placing this cache with best wishes from our family to yours - Xin Nian Kuai Le (Happy New Year), and Gong Xi Fa Cai (Wishing you a prosperous and good year)!

Location, Parking, and Access

This cache is located in a small patch of woods just off the Luce Line trail. Parking is available on Fernbrook Lane (both north and south of the Luce Line), and also on 13th Avenue to the East, if you prefer a rumbly walk under the highway.

Once you're on the Luce Line, you'll find a small trailhead to the cache area at N 44° 59.466 W 093° 27.607 - from there, it's a short walk on the hidden trails directly to the cache, with almost no bushwhacking. This cache starts out with a handful of trinkets, a lucky $1 winning lottery ticket, an unactivated Rhode Island geocoin, a digitalfish geofish, and a Red Jeep for good measure. As always, have fun and happy hunting!
