Geocache Description:

Across the street from the back of the cemetary.

February 2, 1942. Less then 2 months after the attack of Pearl Harbor and the West Coast vulnerable as the U.S. Pacific Fleet pretty much destroyed. The Empire of Japan sent a contingency of the 10th Imperial Marines of 10,000 troops fresh from there victories of the island of Wake. The fleet quickly sailed off the Pacific coast and with quick patrol boats sailed up the Santa Clara River and landing outside of Fillmore numbering 10,000 of Japan's finest.
The local Civil Defense and local ranchers of Bardsdale quickly got word of this invasion and on the night of February 3rd under command of Elkins Ranch foreman Hemeterio Guadalupe Ruiz -- numbering less then 300 men armed with only Delaggio's (A large powerful slingshot made of Orange tree limbs and rubber tubing) and crates of oranges -- The local ranchers greatly outnumbered held off the invaders for 3 days pelting them with citric artillery. But on the 3rd day Admiral Sushi commander of the 10th Imperial Marines of the Empire of Japan, ordered a final Bonzai attack with fixed bayonets -- pushed the ranchers back to an old Oak tree. Where this cache can be found.
As it looked nearly hopeless for the ranchers -- Admiral Sushi slipped on a orange peel fell in the small barranca that can still be seen there and broke his neck (look for a wooden cross marker -- by the fence across the road to mark that spot). With the lack of Sushi's leadership the Japanese charge soon fizzled out and the Rancher's took the green fields of Bardsdale back with reinforcements coming from the Ventura County Mounted Sheriff's Posse -- With heavy losses the invasion was halted and Bardsdale was once again a free territory of the United States.
Today at this cache is the cemetary of this battle. And rests these Bardsdale heroes. In there brave memory we proudly place this cache.

(SIGH) Ok I made it up ... but not much happens here in Bardsdale so I felt compelled. It is a beautuful cemetary though and we really liked the area around where this cache was placed. Thanks for reading and putting up with the above story .... Happy Hunting :)
