Geocache Description:

It was in a rock cairn, which is now just a ring of rocks. Someone needed the ammo box more than we did. Lucky number seven, you can drive, if they’d let you, right to it. Three posts are at 290 deg magnetic. A dead topped tree is at 116 deg magnetic and seven paces away, hurry it could be all the way dead, by the time you find it. There is a nice view however, especially on a cool crisp day.

Park at N35 19.71, W106 28.57

To claim this cache, take a picture of yourself (or your GPSr if you are solo), at the ring of rocks.

tealeaf here For those seeking the oldest active caches in New Mexico, the history is a bit murky. They were all placed as letterboxes in 1998 before geocaching was a reality. Jim Dick taught GPS classes at REI and converted some of the caches as geocaching came into being. The actual order of placement is questionable and the lowest GC number is not the earliest hide by date and 7a and 7b seem to have been placed before 6 and 7. These were placed before the reviewer name and publication date were on caches. The earliest log date is 1/28/2001 on 7a. Mouser, the first finder, did not mention the other 3 that were first logged on 2/3, so it is likely that they had not been published yet as they are all in the same area and he would not have skipped them. 7,7b and 6 are all logged for the first time on 2/3/2001. Jim likely never thought these would become historical records and he was never an active cacher.
