Geocache Description:

This cache is on Mt. Empress overlooking Herberton on the Atherton Tablelands. It is a coffee jar with white lid. Besides the usual swap items, it has a First Find Trophy.

Leave the highway in the northern outskirts of Herberton by turning into Empress Avenue, and continue up the side of the mountain range. Two-wheel drive vehicles with reasonable clearance should have no problem if care is taken.
For those driving a two wheel drive vehicle the best place to park is at S 17º 21.577’ E 145º 22.777’. Those with a four-wheel drive vehicle, and an adventurous spirit may travel a little closer to the cache along the bulldozed track that goes off from here. Those with a four-wheel drive vehicle, an adventurous spirit, and a large chainsaw may get a little further. Some rash soul has bulldozed a track all the way up the skirts of the Empress. What she thinks of that indignity, I do not know, but those with all the above, and dangerously high suicidal and car-icidal tendencies might try to go all the way up, but I sincerely hope they don’t. Actually I parked at the above co-ordinates and enjoyed a pleasant, but challenging hike to the site. Be careful to stay on the road. This is old mining territory and there is at least one deep mine shaft close to the track. When you get to the top of the Empress, the cache should be relatively easy to find. You deserve an easy find after all the hard work getting there. Best of luck!
