The "SideTracked" series arrives in Rutland!
Oakham is Rutland's only surviving passenger railway station. The station is situated almost halfway between Leicester 27 miles to the west and Peterborough 25 miles eastward on the (as built) Syston and Peterborough Railway, the line is now part of the much bigger Birmingham to Peterborough Line.
About The Cache
Only a couple of minutes walk from the station, you are looking for a magnetically-attached nano sized container containing a small log, so please bring along your own pen/pencil. The cache isn't really visible, so just feel for it.
If arriving by train, upon exiting the main station head towards the level crossing. Cross the road and head for a high vantage point then follow your GPSr.
The area is well-lit, so no need for a torch in darkness - in fact this will draw attention to yourself as the cache location is overlooked and requires stealth to retrieve. The magnet in the cache is quite strong, but do keep a good hold on the cache and try not to drop it!
If you are unfortunate enough to drop the cache, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO RECOVER IT, please just let me know and I will replace it.
Please be very aware that the location of the cache is well used, particularly when a train is in the station or passing, so perhaps it is best avoided during those times
Car parking is available either side of the station and from there the cache is just a short walk away.
