Geocache Description:

An easy cache and dash situated near Micheldever railway station.

HISTORY

Micheldever railway station was opened on 11th May 1840 by the London & South Western Railway on its main line from London to Southampton. It was originally named 'Andover Road' because of its proximity to the main Basingstoke-Andover Road. It took the name 'Micheldever' (a village 2 miles to the south) when Andover had its own built in 1854.

The station attracted a small cluster of houses and shops creating the village known as 'Micheldever Station'. The platform on which the 'flint' built station building stands is now out of use and access to the island platform is via a subway.

The station is served by South West Trains stopping services from London Waterloo to Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth and Poole.

THE CACHE
